WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
  • Support Lead Technicians during a project.
  • Show proficiency and quality in installing project-specific components and equipment consistent with manufacturer and company standards.
  • Assist in the installation and support various cable types (coaxial, fiber, Cat 5/6, etc.) in commercial and residential environments to meet desired quality standards.
  • Demonstrate ability to use basic hand and power tools.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM:
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED (Associate Degree Preferred) Ability to explain DAS and your experience with a DAS system
  • 3+ years of technical experience, or a combination of related education / experience.
  • Willingness to learn new technology and design plans and bills of material.
  • Hands-on experience with project specific OEMs.

Fiber Operations Supervisor
Description
General Duty Statement
 
Oversees day-to-day operation, maintenance, design, inspection, and management of telecommunications utility service fiber optics plant and customer premise equipment, including the installation of service and customer premise cabling.
 
Distinguishing Features of the Class
Responsible for coordinating and supervising all work that supports the outside plant infrastructure and provides leadership to the telecommunications outside plant maintenance and installation team. Investigates and resolves complaints, issues or questions of the general public or other City departments. Ensures high levels of customer service and work quality are being maintained in a manner that promotes retail service adoption and a positive public image of Fort Dodge Fiber.
 
Supervision Received
Works under the general guidance and direction of the Fort Dodge Fiber Director or designated supervisor with independence in decisions related to assignments.
 
Supervision Exercised
Supervises technical operations of outside plant-focused staff and daily work functions.
 
Essential Functions & Competencies
  • Supervises fiber optic plant construction and operations, ensuring that high levels of customer service and work quality are being maintained in a manner that promotes retail service adoption and a positive public image of Fort Dodge Fiber.
  • Leads the selection of service technician team members in conjunction with the Fort Dodge Fiber Director, the Assistant City Manager, and City’s Human Resources Department.
  • Plans, organizes, schedules, supervises, and inspects the work of service technician team members so personnel and equipment are used in the most efficient manner to complete projects, resolve technical issues, and prevent problems to maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Fairly and consistently trains and evaluates service technician staff in a manner that helps the department and City achieve performance goals in a positive, customer-focused culture that continually improves.
  • Assures that all work performed in the unit meets the City’s standards for customer service excellence, accuracy, quality, and efficiency, maintaining compliance with OSHA safety standards and all City personnel policies.
  • Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with employees, City officials, contractors, customers, and the general public. Works with other City departments as needed to investigate and resolve complaints, issues or respond to questions of the general public or other City departments. Supports activities of the department to assure that appropriate communication and coordination of efforts occurs with other units of the City.
  • Collaborates with the Customer Experience Manager and team to ensure that service technicians conform to customer service standards of excellence and performance expectations.
  • Recommends, procures, and purchases appropriate equipment, services, supplies, for the department and monitors innovations and trends in the broadband service industry.
  • Drafts and prepares plans, reports, and documents for presentation to City senior managers, the City Council, citizens and other governmental organizations pertaining to outside plant and customer-premise services.
  • Serves in a technology consultative role with customers as required.
  • Develops, implements, and adapts policies and procedures specific to the department pertaining to outside plant operations. Identifies and recommends solutions for issues and problems, including providing guidance and assistance with system troubleshooting.
  • Oversees, creates, and maintains up to date documentation of the network and monitoring system maps.
  • Plans and schedules projects to be performed; coordinates and oversees all work done by service contract providers.
  • Configures, installs, and maintains network infrastructure and equipment.
  • Completes network capacity planning, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and monitoring to ensure system availability, scalability, and general system health.
  • Provides technical customer support services to subscribers of commercial and residential communication products, as well as wholesale Internet and phone service providers.
  • Performs day-to-day tasks associated with configuring, programing, and troubleshooting the network system, including progress reporting, maintenance and record keeping.
  • Research new products and technologies and providing recommendations and justifications for their use. Attends workshops and training seminars to maintain up-to-date knowledge of various products, materials, procedures and equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Leads work with contractors and vendors to develop solutions and influence the future of networking and its associated infrastructure.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies 24/7.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • General knowledge and understanding of the OSI network model, Ethernet networks and associated hardware platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, establish, and adjust routine working procedures and methods in a networking or broadband utility, including directing the work of others to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • General knowledge of general FTTx operating and maintenance processes and procedures, information technologies, office and operating system software, and facility management.
  • Ability to anticipate, analyze, make decisions, and systematically take action to solve problems using resourcefulness, tact, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to perform professional work and research to process complex information and make reliable recommendations to senior-level management.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three (3) years of relevant job experience, such as networking industry construction and/or maintenance experience with end-user interaction; telecommunications (phone, internet, or television). Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems in the areas of construction, low voltage wiring, cabling, and installation of customer premise equipment.
  • Overall excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Valid State driver's license, including a DMV record that is deemed acceptable by the City. Must meet the requirements of the City’s motor vehicle policy. Must be insurable and maintain insurability.
  • Must maintain residency within fifteen (15) miles of the corporate limits of Fort Dodge. Residency to be established within sixty (60) days of placement.

Fiber Optic Technician
Description
Looking for Fiber Optic techs in both of the Portland, ME and Gardiner, ME locations.
 
As a Fiber Optic Technician, you will be responsible for testing fiber optic cabling, joining optical fibers using a fusion splicer, and attaining a low loss splice through a proficient cleave. You'll need to be able to display and interpret the results for the purpose of analyzing and documenting fiber optic links. In this position you'll be regularly using OTDR, Power Meter, & Light Source equipment to complete your work. This position will have travel required extensively in and out-of-state. You will also be working outside in various weather conditions. Overtime will be required.
 
Responsibilities & Requirements
  • Have a 2-year college degree or 2-4 years of related experience preferred
  • Be able to climb utility poles and work out of an aerial lift devise
  • Be able to stand, walk, and work on uneven ground for the full workday
  • Maintain knowledge of technological changes through continuing education, training, and trade articles
  • Knowledge of Anritsu (OTDR) and Fujikura (Fusion Splicer) equipment preferred
  • Valid driver's license with safe driving record required
  • CDL (Commercial Driver's License) desirable but not required
  • Lift heavy materials and equipment up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis and up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis
